God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.
Memory Cross has created a fun way to memorize Bible verses. It is a simple piece of paper with an amazing design that fascinates children and adults. Each card consists of four panels designed to make an endless loop. For memorizing Scripture this system has a number of advantages:
- It is fun and kids really like to play with it. For many kids they have a hard time putting it down which means they'll fold it over and over again reading the Scripture as they fold through the panels.
- It breaks the Bible verse into four panels making it easier to memorize.
- Each panel has one part of the Scripture allowing kids to reflect on what that part means to them.
The Bible is God's Word which changes lives, but only if it is internalized and reflected on. While reading the Bible is good it is not enough. The Pharisees knew the Bible better well but they did not reflect on the implications for their lives. Proverbs 4:21 says this: "Don't lose sight of them. Let them penetrate deep into your heart,"
Chuck Swindoll wrote, "I know of no other single practice in the Christian life more rewarding, practically speaking, than Scripture memorization. . . . No other single exercise pays greater spiritual dividends! Your prayer life will be strengthened. Your witnessing will be sharper and much more effective. Your attitudes and outlook will begin to change. Your mind will become alert and observant. Your confidence and assurance will be enhanced. Your faith will be solidified" (Growing Strong in the Seasons of Life [Grand Rapids: Zondervan, 1994], p. 61).
Rick Warren in the Purpose Driven Life listed the benefits of memorizing Bible verses as follows:
- Resist temptation
- Make wise decisions
- Reduce Stress
- Build confidence
- Offer good advice
- Share your faith
That's a pretty good gift to give kids. The video shows how each Memory Cross folds.
