The People Around You Matter

One of the greatest influences on your walk with God is the company you keep. Proverbs 13:20 tells us, “Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm.” God designed us for community, but not just any community—one built on love, truth, accountability, and shared faith.

In a world where values shift and compromise is often encouraged, surrounding yourself with people who share your Christian beliefs isn’t just wise—it’s necessary. You need friends who will encourage you to live for Christ, who won’t pull you away from your convictions but will hold you to them when it gets hard.

These are the kind of people who:

  • Pray for you when you’re too weary to pray for yourself

  • Remind you of God’s promises when your faith is shaken

  • Celebrate your wins with humility and grace

  • Call you out in love when you’re drifting off course

  • Point you back to the Cross when you forget your worth

Even Jesus surrounded Himself with a close group—His disciples. He modeled the importance of intentional relationships, built on truth and purpose.

It’s not about isolating yourself from the world. We’re called to be salt and light. But you can’t pour from an empty cup, and you can’t stand strong if your foundation is constantly being eroded by negative influence. That’s why the people you allow into your inner circle matter so much.

So take a good look around. Are the people in your life drawing you closer to Christ—or pushing you further away? Do they have your back in the storms of life? Are they committed to walking in truth, even when it’s hard?

Find your people—those who love Jesus, love you, and aren’t afraid to tell you the truth. And be that kind of person for someone else.

“As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” — Proverbs 27:17
