Christians, now is the time to pray for our government.

Christians, now is the time to pray for our government.

Christians, now is the time to pray for our government.

The Good News is that as of this writing it looks like our government is going to re-open.  There are still lots of things that need to be resolved like Affordable Health Care.

We are watching our nation unravel, not just from political disagreement, but from deep, growing hatred between fellow Americans. We are no longer dealing with a healthy debate between two sides seeking the same goal. What we are seeing is a breakdown of respect, decency, and common purpose. Our leaders are entrenched in power struggles while the people they were elected to serve grow weary, frustrated, and forgotten.

Now is not the time to sit back. Now is the time for prayer, not just casual words, but earnest intercession. As believers, we are called to stand in the gap and lift up our government before God. Scripture tells us in 1 Timothy 2:1-2 to pray for kings and all those in authority, so that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.

We desperately need leaders both Democrats and Republicans who fear God more than they fear losing votes. Leaders who care more about solving problems than scoring political points. Leaders who remember they serve the people, not a party. We need men and women in office who will work across the aisle, lay aside pride, and pursue what is good for the nation, not just for their re-election campaigns.

And if those currently in leadership are unwilling or unable to do that, then Lord, we ask You to raise up new leaders. Raise up bold, honest, humble public servants from both parties who will honor You, love this country, and work for unity instead of division. Raise up men and women who know what it means to serve, not rule. Leaders who listen. Leaders who build, not tear down.

This is not a time to give up or grow numb. It’s a time to seek God’s mercy over our land. It's time to pray for wisdom, for courage, and for revival, not just in Washington, but in our own hearts.

God, forgive us for where we have been silent when we should have spoken. Heal our land, restore our unity, and guide us forward—not in the wisdom of man, but in the truth and righteousness that comes from You alone.
