We Need to Stop This Madness

We Need to Stop This Madness

We Need to Stop This Madness

I’ve voted Republican for most of my life. For decades the party stood for smaller government, fiscal responsibility, strong defense, and a belief in personal responsibility. It was the party that looked out for working Americans, the men and women who built this country, paid their taxes, raised their families, and lived by common-sense values.

But what I see now under Donald Trump is not the party I grew up supporting. Somewhere along the way we lost our moral compass and replaced it with blind loyalty to a man who puts his own interests, and those of the ultra-wealthy and big business,  ahead of the everyday Americans he claims to fight for. The principles that once defined conservative leadership, integrity, restraint, respect for institutions  have been replaced by chaos and fealty to one individual. That’s not conservative; it’s cultish.

History gives us a cautionary example. In the early 1930s, many of Germany’s conservative elites believed they could use Adolf Hitler and then control him to defeat the political left and restore stability. They thought they were being clever. Instead, they handed absolute power to a madman. Once in control, Hitler silenced his critics, purged opposition, and turned Germany into a dictatorship. They had multiple opportunities to stop him early, but cowardice, ambition, and fear of breaking party unity kept them silent. By the time they realized what they’d done, it was too late.

Our current Republican leadership doesn’t have to repeat that mistake. They don’t have to kiss Trump’s ring. They could do what’s right for the country. If one or two speak out, Trump will destroy them politically. But if dozens or hundreds  stand together, his grip breaks. It’s not complicated: courage in numbers can save a party, and maybe a nation.

What the Bible Says About Government and Responsibility

Scripture is clear that government has a God-given role, to promote justice, protect the innocent, and restrain evil. Romans 13:1–4 says that “there is no authority except that which God has established,” and that rulers are to be “God’s servants for your good.” But when leaders abandon that calling, when they use power for selfish gain or to sow division,  believers have a duty to stand for what is right, even if it costs us politically.

Proverbs 29:2 reminds us, “When the righteous thrive, the people rejoice; when the wicked rule, the people groan.” Good government blesses its people; corrupt leadership destroys them. Christians aren’t called to blind loyalty to any man or party — we’re called to loyalty to truth, justice, and righteousness.

Micah 6:8 sums it up perfectly: “What does the Lord require of you? To act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.” That’s what we should expect of our leaders — and of ourselves when we step into the voting booth.

What You Can Do Right Now

  1. Pray for wisdom and courage. Ask God to raise up leaders who seek truth and justice, not fame or wealth.

  2. Register to vote. If you’re unsure, check your status at vote.gov.

  3. Bring a friend. Half the country sits out midterms — that’s how extremists win.

  4. Volunteer or give locally. Help candidates who live out integrity and humility.

  5. Speak up. Write, call, or post,  remind others that silence is not faithfulness.

We can’t sit quietly while others drive this nation into the ditch. God calls us to stand for truth, protect the innocent, and work for justice. That’s not partisan, that’s obedience.

If we want to keep this republic, then men and women of faith need to bring back common sense, moral courage, and a willingness to honor God above party.

A Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father,
We ask You to guide our nation with wisdom and mercy. Raise up leaders who seek justice, walk humbly, and serve with integrity. Give Your people courage to speak truth and to stand for what is right, even when it’s hard. Heal our divisions, strengthen our faith, and remind us that You alone are the ultimate authority.

May Your will be done in our country as it is in heaven.
Amen.
