In a world full of distractions, it's easy to lose sight of what really matters. Social media, news, entertainment, and even good things like work and family can pull our attention in so many directions that we forget our God-given purpose. But Scripture is clear: we are called to live with intention and focus—doing the things God has placed before us, not chasing after every shiny object or cultural trend.
So, what has God actually called us to do?
1. Love God Above All
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” – Matthew 22:37
This is the foundation. God has called us to seek Him first, to walk in relationship with Him daily through prayer, Scripture, and obedience. If we don’t get this part right, everything else falls apart.
2. Love Others as Yourself
“This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.” – John 15:12
God has called us to be people of love—real, sacrificial, patient, Christ-like love. That means showing kindness, extending forgiveness, speaking truth in love, and bearing with one another.
3. Live a Life of Integrity and Holiness
“Be holy, because I am holy.” – 1 Peter 1:16
We are not called to blend into the culture. We are called to be set apart. That means living with moral conviction, honesty, purity, and discipline in a world that values compromise.
4. Use Your Gifts to Serve
“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others.” – 1 Peter 4:10
Whether it's teaching, building, encouraging, organizing, caring, or creating—God has equipped each of us with unique talents. Our calling includes using those gifts to build His Kingdom and bless others, not to hoard or waste them.
5. Make Disciples
“Go and make disciples of all nations...” – Matthew 28:19
This command isn’t just for pastors or missionaries. All believers are called to share their faith, mentor others, and help people grow closer to Jesus. That starts in our own homes, neighborhoods, and workplaces.
6. Be Faithful Where You Are
“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord.” – Colossians 3:23
Sometimes we wait for a big sign or a dramatic calling. But often, God wants us to be faithful in the day-to-day: raising our children, showing up to work, caring for aging parents, being a faithful friend. There is no “small” work when it’s done for God.
Staying Focused
Staying focused means saying “no” to good things so you can say “yes” to the best things. It means guarding your heart and mind from the constant noise. It means making time for prayer and Scripture, so you can hear God’s voice above the chaos.
The Apostle Paul said it best:
“I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 3:14
Let’s stop chasing the world and start living with purpose. The mission is clear. Let’s stay focused.
