Trading Treats for Truth: Share the Gospel This Halloween
Halloween is less than a month away. Soon kids will be knocking on your door, lining up at a trunk-or-treat, or running between booths at your church's fall festival. You have a choice to make. You can hand out candy, which is what every child expects. Or you can also hand out something that lasts a lot longer than a fun-size candy bar: the good news of Jesus.
Good News Is Meant to Be Shared
Why would you want to? If you're a follower of Jesus, you've hopefully experienced God's amazing love in your own life. It's life-changing. And who wouldn't want to share something like that?
Steven Curtis Chapman captured this perfectly in his song "Live Out Loud." The song, from his 2001 album Declaration, pictures someone winning a fortune on a game show and then acting like nothing ever happened, hiding all the money away in a coffee can. It sounds ridiculous, right? Nobody keeps that kind of news to themselves. Chapman's point is that we've been given something far greater than any prize, new life in Christ, and that kind of news is meant to be shouted from the mountaintops.
We have good news. Halloween is a great time to share it.
A Long Tradition of Small Cards with a Big Message
Is a gospel tract really worth an extra $15 or $20? History says yes. Gospel tracts have a deep tradition in America. The American Tract Society was founded in New York City on May 11, 1825, and from the start it became one of the largest volume publishers in the U.S. It printed 700,000 tracts in its first year and 5 million per year by 1850. By the start of the 20th century, it had printed some 10 billion pages of tracts, books, and Bibles in more than 188 languages. Those little pieces of paper reached millions upon millions of people.
MemoryCross is nowhere near that size. But each of our cards carries the same message: God loves you, your sins can be forgiven, and there is hope. Every card also links to YouAreForeverLoved.com, where anyone who wants to know more about following Jesus can take the next step.
One Small Card Can Change a Life
In this story, a young woman is going through a Whataburger drive-thru when the car ahead pays for her meal and leaves her a small card. That simple act of kindness changed her life, and later the life of her boyfriend, who became her husband. One card. One moment. A lasting difference.
We're Called to Plant Seeds
Even if you don't feel like one card can make a difference, remember: you don't know how God might use it. Jesus told the parable of the sower (Matthew 13). Some seed falls on rocky ground, some on poor soil, and some on good soil where it grows and multiplies. Our job is simply to scatter the seed. As Paul wrote, one plants, another waters, but God gives the growth (1 Corinthians 3:6).
And we're commanded to share. Jesus gave us the Great Commission: "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation" (Mark 16:15). Handing a card to a child in a superhero costume is one simple way to obey that call.
Millions of Open Doors
Think about the opportunity. According to Deloitte's 2026 Halloween Survey, 92% of U.S. households plan to take part in at least one Halloween activity this year. The National Retail Federation expects Americans to spend $13.5 billion on Halloween in 2026. And in past NRF surveys, handing out candy was the most popular way to celebrate, at 68%. That's millions of doors opening and millions of hands reaching out on one night.
Why MemoryCross Cards Work
First, the message is positive. Our cards share that God loves you, cares for you, and has a plan for your life, and that if you turn from your sins, believe, and follow Him, you'll have eternal life.
Second, the design grabs attention. A regular paper tract often gets tucked in a pocket and never read. A MemoryCross card is an endless-loop card: it folds, and folds, and folds again, and keeps going. People stop and say, "How in the world does that work?" Kids want to keep it, play with it, and show it to their friends, and the message travels with it.
Don't Miss This Opportunity
Time is short. Halloween will be here before you know it. This year, along with the candy, give the children who come to your door something that can last forever.
