The last couple of weeks, I felt almost compelled to keep up with everything happening in America. Every scroll. Every notification. Every breaking headline and if I’m being honest, it stresses me out.
I heard Franklin Graham say we need to pray for our country and I agree completely. We do, but it seems like every time I open my newsfeed there’s something new and unsettling. Decisions and statements from the Trump administration, talk about Greenland, tariffs, Venezuela, the list keeps growing everyday. Add to that the shootings, the anger, and the heartbreaking situation unfolding in Minnesota, and it all starts to feel like too much.
That constant exposure does something to you. It quietly replaces peace with anxiety.
A Gentle Interruption From God
In the middle of all that noise, something unexpected showed up in my feed: a clip about the song I Can Only Imagine. The part where Amy Grant turns the song back over to Bart Millard.
I decided to watch it, and it helped refocus me.
From a personal standpoint, that song hit home. When it first came out, we were at Gospel Music Week. The song had already reached number one, but it was still being talked about with everyone there. Funny how God works, our hotel room ended up right next door to Bart Millard's. At the time, it was just a cool moment. Looking back now, it feels like another reminder of how God weaves meaning into ordinary details.
But this time, watching that clip, it felt like God was saying something very direct to me:
Mike, don’t focus on all of that. I’ve got this.
God Is Still in Control
Yes, bad things happen. Yes, more bad things may come. The Bible never pretends otherwise.
But it does promise peace, not the kind the world offers, not the kind that depends on circumstances, but peace that comes from trusting God when circumstances make no sense.
That peace doesn’t come from staying informed 24/7. It doesn’t come from outrage or fear or endless commentary. It comes from putting the phone down, opening the Bible, and opening your heart.
A Better Way to Respond
So here’s the challenge, not just for you, but for me too:
Put down social media for a bit.
Open God’s Word.
Spend real time with Him.
Pray for this country. Pray for our leaders. Pray for your neighbors. Pray for your friends.
And don’t stop there, pray for revival. Not just in America, but across the world. A revival that turns hearts back to God, replaces fear with faith, and reminds us who is truly in control.
Because when everything around us feels uncertain, one thing remains unshaken:
