I heard this phrase at church Sunday: "go out and change the world" but most of the time, people saying it don't actually explain how to do it, as was the case this Sunday, so I thought I'd write down my thoughts. Changing the world doesn’t usually look like standing on a world stage with some great new announcement. In my opinion it looks like showing up, day in and day out, living with integrity, loving well, and doing what’s right even when it costs you.
Here’s how you can actually make a difference in the world — not just talk about it:
1. Start with Your Circle
The easiest way to change the world is to change your part of it. Your family, your friends, your coworkers. Encourage someone. Mentor someone. Be the dependable one. The honest one. The one who listens.
"Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." – Matthew 5:16
2. Do Small Things with Excellence
Don’t wait for a big stage, it will probably never come, instead clean your house well. Do your job well. Parent your children with purpose. Show up on time. Keep your word. It may not go viral, but it builds trust, influence, and character — the foundation of true change.
3. Live Out Your Faith Boldly, Not Loudly
You don’t have to preach to everyone, but your life should look different. Love sacrificially, forgive generously, speak the truth with grace. People notice when someone walks with peace in a chaotic world.
4. Serve Consistently
Find a need and meet it. Volunteer, donate, help your neighbor. Get involved in your church or community. Most of the time, world changers are the ones quietly doing the work nobody else wants to. In the end God will say well done.
5. Raise the Next Generation Well
Want to make a lasting impact? Pour into your kids, grandkids, or the young people around you. Teach them values, work ethic, faith, and love for others. That ripple will go farther than you’ll ever see.
6. Speak Truth in a Culture of Noise
In a world driven by popularity and fear of offending, don’t be afraid to speak the truth — grounded in Scripture, seasoned with kindness. The world doesn’t need more noise. It needs more clarity and conviction.
7. Build Something That Lasts
Whether it’s a business, a ministry, a family, or a habit of prayer — build something that will outlive you. Leave behind more than stuff. Leave behind a legacy of faith, purpose, and love. The older I get the more I realize how true this is.
Changing the world isn’t about applause or recognition. It’s about being faithful where God placed you and letting Him work through you.
